About the CGPA Calculator
Cumulative GPA, or CGPA, is the average of every term you have finished. A simple average of your semester GPAs is often wrong, because a 12-credit semester should count for less than an 18-credit one.
This tool weights each semester by its credit hours so the result matches what appears on a transcript.
How to use it
- Enter the GPA from each semester.
- Enter how many credits you took that semester.
- Add or remove semesters as needed. The CGPA updates automatically.
The formula
CGPA = Σ(semester GPA × semester credits) ÷ Σ(semester credits)
Worked examples
Three semesters
3.40 × 15 = 51.0, 3.70 × 16 = 59.2, 3.20 × 15 = 48.0. Total 158.2 ÷ 46 credits = 3.44. A plain average of the three GPAs would give 3.43, which is slightly off.
Frequently asked questions
Can I raise my CGPA quickly?
The more credits you have completed, the slower it moves. Strong grades in high-credit semesters have the most effect.
Does a repeated course replace the old grade?
It depends on your school's grade replacement policy. If the old grade is removed from your transcript, leave it out here too.
Is CGPA the same as cumulative GPA?
Yes. CGPA is just the abbreviation more common outside the US.
