About the Scientific Calculator

For algebra, trigonometry and physics homework when your handheld calculator is not nearby. It follows the standard order of operations and supports keyboard input.

How to use it

  1. Type an expression with the buttons or your keyboard.
  2. Press = or Enter.
  3. Use Ans to reuse the last answer, and DEG/RAD to switch angle mode.

The formula

Order of operations: brackets, then powers and roots, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Powers are evaluated right to left, so 2^3^2 = 2^9 = 512.

Worked examples

Trig in degrees

sin(30) + √(16) = 0.5 + 4 = 4.5.

Negative powers

−2^2 = −4, because the power applies before the minus sign. Type (−2)^2 to get 4.

Frequently asked questions

Why does tan(90) show a huge number?

Tangent is undefined at 90°. Floating-point math returns a very large value instead.

Is log base 10?

Yes. Use ln for the natural log (base e).

What is the largest factorial?

170!, the largest that fits in a standard number. Factorials need whole numbers.
